Why is alcohol education important for kids?

When there are so many campaigns out there, asking for our support, why is this important? We’ve all been there right? Sneaking alcohol out of our parents’ houses and into parties? It’s part of growing up, a right of passage – we did it – can a few lessons in school really help?

Well, we’re not trying to stop youngsters from drinking, what we know is if you drink regularly before the age of 15 you’re much more likely to smoke, and engage in other risk taking – and GSCE grades suffer too – a 20 point drop if youngsters drink regularly, the difference between an A and a C – or a C and a U – it’s not surprising if you think about it, if a 14 year old is out every weekend drinking, they’re not going to be paying much attention to school work.

So, we’re working to raise the age at which kids START drinking and to reduce drunkenness when they do.

We’re pleased to say that most 11- 15 year olds don’t drink regularly, or get drunk, and that’s partly because our fun, engaging activities, film clips, quizzes and activities are used in over 1000 schools across the UK – the talkaboutalcohol programme helps kids themselves work out why it’s not a good idea to start drinking too young, and why it’s not cool to get plastered – there’s no preachiness or scare tactics – take a look at our website or send us an email via our contact page.

Please sign up and have a go at dryvember – we’re trying to raise £1 per child as we plan to support a further 25,000 kids in 100 schools with this campaign.

You can also donate £3 by Text to Dryvember by texting ‘DRY’ to 70660. You can donate any other amount by texting ‘Dry £5’ or whatever amount you choose by indicating it after the £ sign. You can also make a donation online.
